Train it in TheoriaAbout the Hastings Variation
The Hastings Variation branches from the 5. Bg5 h6 line of the Semi-Slav Defense. Instead of keeping the pin with 6. Bh4, which allows the Anti-Moscow Gambit, White exchanges with 6. Bxf6 Qxf6 and gives up the bishop pair. The follow-up 7. Qb3 develops the queen toward the queenside, where it eyes b7 and adds pressure on d5 while Black's queen's bishop is still shut in behind the e6 pawn.
