A Meran Semi-Slav line in which White answers 9...c5 with 10. d5, gaining central space and challenging the black queenside setup.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Reynolds' Variation
Reynolds' Variation arises when White answers 9...c5 in the Classical Meran with 10. d5 instead of the Old Variation, 10. e5. Rather than opening lines, White advances the d-pawn alongside the e4 pawn to gain central space. The advanced pawn also blunts the long diagonal that ...c5 was meant to open for Black's light-squared bishop. Black, to move, has to deal with the d5 pawn, which the e6 pawn can capture.
