About the Sozin Variation

The Sozin Variation, 11...Nxe5, is Black's third option in the Blumenfeld line of the Meran. The others are the more popular 11...axb5 and the Rabinovich, 11...Ng4. Instead of taking the knight on b5, Black removes the e5 pawn, which frees the f6-knight. A main line runs 12. Nxe5 axb5 13. Bxb5+ Bd7 14. Nxd7 Qa5+ 15. Bd2 Qxb5 16. Nxf8 Kxf8. White is thought to hold a slight edge there, but the lopsided pawn structures give both sides chances.
