Train it in TheoriaAbout the Stahlberg Variation
The Stahlberg Variation arises in the Sozin branch of the Old Meran. After 11...Nxe5 12. Nxe5 axb5, White plays 13. Qf3 instead of recapturing material at once. The queen uses the emptied long diagonal to strike at the rook on a8, and Black has not yet castled. White is a pawn down, so the play is forcing and tactical. Black's isolated b-pawn and advanced d4-pawn shape the later middlegame.
