About the Simagin Variation

The Simagin Variation is a branch of the Maróczy Bind. White answers the pressure on the d4-knight from 5...Bg7 by retreating it with 6. Nc2 rather than defending it with 6. Be3, which sidesteps the piece exchanges that would relieve Black's cramped position. After 6...d6 7. Be2 Black develops with 7...Nh6. On h6 the knight leaves the f-pawn unobstructed, so the ...f5 break against the c4–e4 clamp stays possible.
