A sharp Alapin Sicilian line in which Black, after ...c4 and ...Qc7, lunges with 8...g5 to undermine White's advanced pawn on e5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Ivanchuk Line
The Ivanchuk Line is the branch of the Stoltz Attack in which Black meets 7. Bc2 Qc7 8. Qe2 with the flank thrust 8...g5. The queen on c7 and the knight on c6 already bear down on e5, which White's queen and f3-knight defend. The g-pawn now threatens ...g4 to drive that knight away. The pawn on c4 hinders d2-d3, which leaves White's development awkward and the position unbalanced and tactical.
