About the Brussels Gambit

The Brussels Gambit answers 2. Nf3 with 2...f5, offering the f-pawn so that White's e-pawn no longer controls d5. The idea is unsound: the move opens the a2-g8 and e8-h5 diagonals, and after 3. exf5 the natural 3...d5 leaves holes on e5 and e6, so lines such as 4. Bb5+ followed by Ne5 and Qh5+ punish Black. The engine gives White a clear advantage, though Black scores well in online games. The odd 3...Nh6 is called the Double Dutch Gambit.
