About the Edge Variation

The Edge Variation is a Botvinnik Defense line of the Closed Sicilian. White answers 6...e5 by developing the king's knight to h3 instead of f3. From h3 the knight does not obstruct the f-pawn, so f4-f5 stays available, and it can later reroute toward f2. Black's 7...Nge7 follows the same logic. It keeps the f-pawn free for ...f5 and leaves the long diagonal of the fianchettoed g7 bishop open.
