A Yugoslav Attack line of the Dragon Sicilian in which Black trades knights on d4 and challenges White's c4-bishop with ...Be6.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Czerniak Variation
The Czerniak Variation arises when Black, after 9. Bc4, exchanges knights with 9...Nxd4 10. Bxd4 and then contests the a2–g8 diagonal with 10...Be6. The idea is to neutralize White's light-squared bishop immediately, rather than spending time on ...Bd7 and ...Rc8. White most often retreats with 11. Bb3 or trades with 11. Bxe6, while 11. Nd5 is a rarer try. The engine rates White's edge as slight, and results are close to even.
