About the Old Line

The Old Line is the position after 10...Rc8, where Black brings the rook to the half-open c-file to attack the bishop on c4. Leaving the bishop there invites tactics in which ...Nxd4 and ...Ng4 exploit an overworked white queen and hit both bishops, so 11. Bb3 is played in the vast majority of games, keeping the bishop on the a2–g8 diagonal toward Black's king. The engine slightly favors White, while online results lean marginally toward Black.
