After 2. b3 d5, White answers the central challenge with 3. Bb2, developing the bishop to the long diagonal and leaving the e4-pawn unprotected. Black most often sidesteps with 3...d4, gaining space and blunting the bishop. Accepting with 3...dxe4 is the second choice, and White scores comparatively well in those games. 3...Nc6 is also common. The line is rarely played, overall results are close to even, and the engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
