An offbeat Sicilian line in which Black meets White's c4-e4 setup and planned kingside fianchetto with the early flank thrust 4...h5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Gloria Variation
The Gloria Variation arises from the Staunton-Cochrane Variation, 2. c4, sometimes called the English Variation. In that line White fixes pawns on c4 and e4 to discourage ...d5, accepting that d4 can no longer be supported by a pawn. After 3. Nc3 Nc6 4. g3 White is preparing a fianchetto, and Black answers with 4...h5. The pawn is aimed at ...h4, which would disturb White's kingside before the bishop reaches g2. The line is a rare sideline.
