A rare anti-Sicilian in which White meets 2...d6 with 3. Bd3, developing the bishop ahead of the d-pawn and avoiding the Open Sicilian.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Kopec System
The Kopec System is an uncommon anti-Sicilian in which White answers 2...d6 with 3. Bd3. The bishop develops and prepares castling instead of the usual 3. d4. Because the bishop stands in front of the d-pawn, the center stays closed and the play is slow. Black most often replies 3...Nf6 or 3...Nc6, with 3...e6 a distant third. The engine rates the position as level, and Black scores slightly better in online games.
