Sicilian Defense: Kotov Gambit is a rare B50 sideline where Black answers 3. g3 with 3...b5, offering the b-pawn to unsettle White's fianchetto.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Kotov Gambit
The Kotov Gambit is an offbeat line of the 2...d6 Sicilian. Black answers 3. g3, which prepares a kingside fianchetto, with 3...b5. The pawn on b5 stands unprotected on the f1-bishop's diagonal, so 4. Bxb5+ wins it with check. Taking, however, sends the bishop away from g2, the square 3. g3 was meant to prepare. If White declines, Black has gained queenside space early.
