A speculative gambit in the Rossolimo Sicilian in which White meets the knight sortie 3...Na5 with 4. b4, offering the b-pawn to gain time.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the San Francisco Gambit
The San Francisco Gambit arises when Black answers the Rossolimo bishop with 3...Na5, taking the knight off the b5-bishop's line of attack, and White responds with 4. b4. The advanced pawn hits both the knight on a5 and the c5-pawn, offering itself in return for time against the knight on the rim and pressure on Black's queenside. 3...Na5 is considered dubious, and 4. b4 is an enterprising but speculative reply.
