A quiet line of the Scheveningen Sicilian in which White fianchettoes the king's bishop with 6. g3, aiming for positional pressure along the long diagonal.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Fianchetto Variation
The Fianchetto Variation, 6. g3, prepares Bg2. From there the bishop supports e4 and bears down the long diagonal toward d5 and the queenside. It is a quieter, positional alternative to the Keres Attack and the English Attack, and it is rarely seen. Black usually keeps developing with 6...Be7, the most common reply, or chooses 6...a6 or 6...Nc6. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and Black scores well in Lichess games.
