Train it in TheoriaAbout the Tal Variation
The Tal Variation is a branch of the Scheveningen in which White meets 6. f4 Nc6 7. Be3 Be7 with 8. Qf3. From f3 the queen supports e4 and is aimed at the kingside. With the bishop on e3 and the queen developed, the back rank is clear for queenside castling, and White can follow with a g4-g5 advance. Black keeps the d6-e6 center and looks for counterplay on the half-open c-file and through the ...e5 or ...d5 breaks.
