A line of the Fischer-Sozin Attack in which Black answers White's kingside castling with ...Na5 and ...b6, targeting the bishop on b3.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Sherbakov Variation
The Sherbakov Variation arises in the Fischer-Sozin form of the Main Line, where both sides castle kingside. After 9. O-O, Black plays 9...Na5 to challenge the b3-bishop, which bears down on e6. Once White answers 10. f4, Black supports the knight with 10...b6. White's f-pawn prepares f5 or e5 against the d6–e6 center. Black keeps the option of ...Nxb3, which would gain the bishop pair.
