About the Venice Attack

The Venice Attack arises when Black plays 5...e5 before ...a6, leaving b5 unguarded. White inserts the check 6. Bb5+ before moving the attacked knight from d4. Black usually interposes 6...Bd7, inviting an exchange of light-squared bishops, and 6...Nbd7 is the main alternative; the engine also considers 6...Nfd7. The line is rarely seen. White scores well with it in online games, and the engine gives White a slight edge.
