About the Morozevich Variation

In the Morozevich Variation, Black answers the bishop on f4 with 11...g5. The thrust forces White to resolve the tension on the h2–b8 diagonal, since 12. Bxg5 loses a piece to 12...Nxc4. The loosened kingside usually sends Black's king to the queenside. The most common reply is 12. Ne3, aiming at the f5 bishop, while 12. Bxe5 gives up the bishop pair for compensation. Alexander Morozevich introduced the line against Garry Kasparov in 2000.
