A D12 branch of the Slav's Schallopp Defense in which White's 7. Ne5 in a symmetrical exchange structure is met by 7...Nfd7, challenging the knight.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Amsterdam Variation
The Amsterdam Variation arises from the Schallopp Defense when White exchanges on d5, which produces a symmetrical Exchange Slav structure with an open c-file, and then posts a knight on e5 with 7. Ne5. Black answers 7...Nfd7 and immediately contests the outpost by offering to trade the advanced knight. White's dark-squared bishop stays behind the e3 pawn, so the play centers on the c-file and on piece activity rather than on pawn breaks.
