About the Durkin Gambit

The Durkin Gambit arises after 1. Na3 e5 2. Nc4 Nc6 3. e4 f5. White's knight has already reached c4 to press on e5, and when White adds 3. e4, Black does not settle for quiet development but challenges the e4-pawn with the f-pawn. The pawn on f5 stands en prise to exf5, so the central tension is resolved quickly and lines open early. The result is a tactical game with almost no established theory, met mostly as a surprise.
