The Damhaug Gambit arises when White answers 1...d5 with 2. f4, a Bird-style claim on e5, and Black replies 2...e5, offering the e-pawn to contest the center at once. Instead of capturing, White most often plays 3. e4, which transposes to the Milner-Barry Variation of the Falkbeer Countergambit in the King's Gambit Declined. Results in that line are close to even between the two sides.
