An offbeat Van Geet gambit in which White meets 1...c5 with an immediate b-pawn sacrifice, aiming to deflect Black's c-pawn from the center.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Düsseldorf Gambit
The Düsseldorf Gambit answers 1...c5 with 2. b4. It forgoes the transposition to a Closed Sicilian and instead offers a wing pawn. The idea resembles the Sicilian Wing Gambit. If Black captures, the c-pawn is drawn away from d4. White then hopes to build a broad center with the e- and d-pawns and to use the opened queenside files for quick development. It is a rare sideline of an already uncommon opening.
