A rare Van Geet Opening sideline in which Black answers White's early Qh5 with 3...Be6, leaving the e5-pawn unprotected for the sake of development.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Hulsemann Gambit
The Hulsemann Gambit arises after 1. Nc3 e5 2. e3 d5 3. Qh5, where the queen sortie hits the e5-pawn. Instead of defending it, Black develops with 3...Be6 and leaves the pawn en prise. In return Black hopes to gain tempi against the exposed queen while building a broad e5–d5 center. Both the queen move and the reply lie well outside mainstream theory.
