A rare Black reply in the Steinitz Gambit of the Vienna: after 5. Ke2, 5...b6 readies the c8-bishop against e4 or the exposed white king.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Fraser-Minckwitz Defense
The Fraser-Minckwitz Defense, 5...b6, is one of the named answers to the Steinitz Gambit after 4...Qh4+ 5. Ke2. Rather than hitting the center with ...d5 or holding the f4-pawn with ...g5, Black vacates b7 for the c8-bishop. From the long diagonal that bishop can aim at e4, and from a6 it would check the uncastled king on e2. Black keeps the extra pawn, and the line remains a rarely seen sideline.
