About the Sörensen Defense

The Sörensen Defense, 5...g5, answers the king walk of the Steinitz Gambit by bolstering the f4-pawn with the g-pawn rather than striking at the center with 5...d5 or 5...d6. Black stays a pawn ahead with the queen on h4, accepting doubled f-pawns and a loosened kingside. White, with the king on e2, counts on the d4-e4 center and on gaining time against the exposed black queen.
