Black's reply to the Vienna Game's Hamppe–Muzio Gambit: the knight centralizes on e5 and the queen comes to f6, keeping the sacrificed piece.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Dubois Variation
The Dubois Variation is one of Black's answers to the Hamppe–Muzio Gambit, the Vienna counterpart of the King's Gambit's Muzio, in which White gives up the f3 knight for an attack on the black king. After 7...Ne5 the knight is centralized and hits the c4 bishop. 8. Qxf4 wins back a pawn, and 8...Qf6 defends the knight while contesting the f-file. Black keeps a piece for a pawn, but White has open lines and a lead in development.
