About the Rushmere Attack

The Rushmere Attack is a branch of the Pierce Gambit, in which White answers 4...g5 with 5. d4 rather than the undermining 5. g3. After 5...g4 6. Bc4 gxf3 7. O-O White has given up the knight for quick development and pressure along the f-file. The sequence 7...d5 8. exd5 Bg4 9. dxc6 wins the piece back. Material is level, both sides have doubled pawns, and the e-file is open.
