About the Kaufmann Variation

The Kaufmann Variation arises when Black meets 5. Nf3 with 5...Bg4, pinning the knight that guards e5 and d4. White answers 6. Qe2, taking the queen out of the pin and attacking the e4-knight along the e-file. The most common reply, 6...Nxc3, has scored well for Black, while 6...Bxf3 and 6...Nc6 have fared poorly. The engine considers the position roughly balanced, and the line is far less common than the Breyer Variation, 5...Be7.
