About the Chigorin Plan

The Chigorin Plan is a queen's pawn version of the Wade Defense, reached by 1. d4 d6 2. Nf3 Bg4 3. c4 Nd7 4. Qb3 Rb8 and classified under ECO A41. Because the bishop has left c8, 4. Qb3 hits the undefended b7-pawn. Black answers with 4...Rb8, which protects it but commits the rook early. Black retains the option of ...Bxf3, while White keeps a broad center with pawns on c4 and d4.
