A rare, unsound gambit in Anderssen's Opening in which White meets 1...a5 by offering the b-pawn with 2. b4; engines clearly favor Black.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Polish Gambit
The Polish Gambit, 1. a3 a5 2. b4, offers White's b-pawn on a square that a3 appears to guard, but the protection is illusory. After 2...axb4, by far the most common reply, recapturing with 3. axb4 drops a rook to 3...Rxa1. White instead plays 3. Bb2 bxa3 4. Nxa3, a pawn down for some development, and engines rate Black clearly better. Online results are nonetheless close to even, and the sidestep 2...a4 has scored poorly for Black.
