About the Gedult Gambit

The Gedult Gambit arises when Black meets 1. f3 with 1...f5 and White replies 2. e4, giving up the e-pawn after 2...fxe4 3. Nc3 for development and play against Black's weakened kingside. Black is left with doubled e-pawns. The most common reply is 3...exf3, followed by 3...Nf6. In a small sample, 3...d5 scores best for Black. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and the line is seldom played.
