Old Benoni sideline in which Black meets 2. dxc5 with ...b6, accepting a pawn deficit for open queenside lines; rare, and engines favor White.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Cormorant Gambit
The Cormorant Gambit, 1. d4 c5 2. dxc5 b6, is an Old Benoni sideline. Instead of recovering the pawn with ...e6 and ...Bxc5, Black hits the c5-pawn with the b-pawn, staying a pawn down in return for open queenside lines and faster piece play. White most often exchanges with 3. cxb6, while 3. Nf3 and 3. Nc3 are less frequent alternatives. Engines rate White clearly better, White scores well in practice, and the line is seldom played.
