A rare line of From's Gambit in the Bird Opening where Black develops the knight to h6 and White answers with 5. d4, keeping the extra pawn.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Lipke Variation
The Lipke Variation arises when Black answers 4. Nf3 with 4...Nh6 and White replies 5. d4. From h6 the knight is bound for g4, where together with the bishop on d6 it presses on h2 and the dark squares near White's king. 5. d4 stakes a claim in the center and frees the c1-bishop. Nearly every game continues 5...Ng4. The line is seldom played, and the engine gives White, still a pawn up, a slight edge.
