Train it in TheoriaAbout the Jaenisch Variation
The Jaenisch Variation meets the Calabrese Countergambit with 3. d3, supporting e4 with a pawn rather than a piece and keeping the c4-bishop on the a2-g8 diagonal. Carl Jaenisch recommended it through 3...Nf6 4. f4 d6 5. Nf3, judging the result favorable to White, and 3...Nf6 is by far Black's usual reply. Later analysis considers 3. f4 or 3. Nc3 more testing. The engine gives White a slight edge, while Lichess results are fairly close.
