About the Haiti Variation

The Haiti Variation of the Bogo-Indian Defense meets 4. Bd2 with 4...Nc6, which protects the attacked bishop on b4 with a developing move instead of 4...Qe7 or 4...a5, or the exchange on d2. The knight on c6 blocks the c-pawn, so the ...c5 break is unavailable for now. White most often questions the bishop with 5. a3, trades with 5. Bxb4, or fianchettoes with 5. g3. The line is rarely seen. The engine gives White a slight edge, and White scores marginally better in online games.
