A rare sideline of the Classical Caro-Kann in which White plays 6. f4, preparing f5 against the g6-bishop instead of the usual h-pawn advance.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Maróczy Attack
The Maróczy Attack, 6. f4, is a much less common alternative to 6. h4 in the Classical Variation of the Caro-Kann. Rather than harassing the g6-bishop with the h-pawn, White prepares f4-f5 to drive it away, though the move loosens the kingside. Black most often answers 6...e6, covering f5, while 6...h6 and 6...Nf6 are the other main choices. The engine rates the position as balanced, but White scores well in online games.
