A rare Caro-Kann sideline in which Black meets the Labahn Attack with 2...e5 and White replies 3. Bb2, targeting the undefended e5-pawn.

About the Polish Variation

Instead of the usual 2...d5, Black answers the Labahn Attack with 2...e5, taking a central foothold and opening the f8-bishop's diagonal toward the loose pawn on b4. White does not defend that pawn with 3. Bb2 and instead attacks e5 along the long diagonal. This leaves Black to choose between protecting the e-pawn and capturing on b4, so both sides have weaknesses to address early. The line is one of only two named branches of 2. b4.
