Gambit line of the Center Game in which White, two pawns down, ignores the pawn on c3 and plays 5. Bc4, aiming at f7 and leaving b2 to be taken.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Schippler Gambit
With 5. Bc4, White declines to recapture on c3 and develops the bishop toward f7. White is now two pawns down, and the b2-pawn is also left en prise. The most frequent replies are 5...Nf6 and 5...d6, which complete development. Taking a third pawn with 5...cxb2 is the main greedy option. The engine also favors the central counterstrike 5...d5 and rates the position as roughly balanced. White scores well in practice.
