Reached through the move order 1. Nf3 c5 2. e3 g6 3. d4 Bg7, this line sees White capture with 4. dxc5. Black answers with 4...Qa5+, which checks the king and also attacks the c5 pawn along the fifth rank, so the material should soon be recovered. White most often blocks with 5. c3. The main alternatives are 5. Bd2 and 5. Nc3. Engine assessment rates the position roughly balanced, and the variation is seldom played.
