About the Chigorin Defense

The Chigorin Defense, 5...Qe7, is one of the less common ways for Black to hold both extra pawns in the Double Danish. The queen bears down on the e4-pawn along the half-open e-file, but it also shuts in the f8-bishop, so the move is regarded as anti-developing. White most often protects e4 with 6. Nc3 or 6. Nd2, while 6. e5 is a rarer try. Engines give White a slight edge, and White scores well in practice.
