About the Korchnoi Attack

The Korchnoi Attack, 2. h3, prepares 3. g4 to undermine the f5-pawn and contest e4, a refined version of the Krejcik Gambit. After the usual 2...Nf6, 3. g4 becomes the Janzen-Korchnoi Gambit, which Black can decline with 3...d5 and obtain a good game. The immediate 2...d5 lets the bishop guard f5 and makes 3. g4 dubious; it scores best for Black. Mayet played 2. h3 in 1839, and Korchnoi revived it at Biel in 1979.
