About the Eastbourne Gambit

The Eastbourne Gambit arises after 1. d4 b6 2. c4 Bb7 3. Nc3 e5. Black strikes at the center at once and offers the e-pawn instead of preparing ...e6. The most common reply is 4. d5, which gains space and blocks the b7-bishop's diagonal. 4. dxe5 accepts the pawn, and 4. Nf3 is also seen. Engines consider White clearly better, although practical results are fairly even. The line is rarely played.
