5. d3 completes a closed fianchetto setup in the Reversed Closed Sicilian and leaves the e-pawn and king's knight uncommitted, so White can still steer toward a Botvinnik System formation with the knight on e2. The most common reply, 5...d6, copies White exactly and is the Full Symmetry line (ECO A26). 5...Nge7 is nearly as frequent. 5...Nf6 is rarer, and White scores well against it. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and Black scores slightly better in practice.
