Train it in TheoriaAbout the Soller Gambit Deferred
The Soller Gambit Deferred arises after 1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 f6. Black uses the f-pawn to undermine the extra pawn on e5. The aim is open lines and fast development rather than recovering material. Compared with the immediate Soller Gambit, 2...f6, the inclusion of 2...Nc6 3. Nf3 means White can no longer answer with the strong 3. e4 Nc6 4. Bc4. The resulting play resembles the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit with colors reversed and Black a tempo down. The related Felbecker Gambit reaches similar positions by placing the bishop on c5 before playing ...f6.
White most often accepts with 4. exf6, opening the f-file but bringing Black's pieces into play. The main alternative is 4. Bf4, which defends the pawn and keeps the e-file structure intact. Engines also rate 4. e4 highly, and 4. Nc3 is an occasional choice. Engines assess the position as clearly better for White. In online play, however, White's practical score is only modestly higher than Black's, and decisive games are the norm. The line is played at amateur level rather than in elite competition.
