A rare Black reply to the Alekhine-Chatard Attack in the French Defense, 6...f6 hits e5 at once but loosens the kingside; engines favor White.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Teichmann Variation
The Teichmann Variation is Black's rare 6...f6 against the Alekhine-Chatard Attack. Black leaves the g5-bishop alone and strikes at the e5-pawn immediately. The cost is a loosened kingside, because the e8-h5 diagonal opens and 7. Qh5+ becomes possible. In practice 7. exf6 is by far the most common reply, and 7. Bd3 is also seen. The engine gives White a clear advantage, and White scores well in practice.
