A French Defense line in which Black recaptures 6...gxf6, accepting doubled f-pawns for active piece play and a half-open g-file.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Morozevich Line
The Morozevich Line recaptures 6...gxf6 instead of the usual 6...Bxf6. Black accepts doubled f-pawns and an isolated h-pawn in return for a half-open g-file and active pieces. The usual follow-up is ...f5, which drives the knight from e4, and ...Bf6, which places the bishop on the long diagonal against d4. Alexander Morozevich and Gregory Kaidanov have played it. White most often replies 7. Nf3, and the engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
