A rare, sharp French Defense sideline in which Black meets White's King's Indian Attack move 2. d3 with 2...f5, striking at e4 immediately.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Franco-Hiva Gambit
The Franco-Hiva Gambit, 2...f5, meets White's quiet King's Indian Attack setup by attacking e4 at once. The thrust is Dutch in style and loosens Black's kingside. The usual reply is 3. exf5, and Black does comparatively well after it. White scores much better after 3. Nc3, while 3. Nf3 is the third common choice. The engine gives White a slight edge, and the line is seldom played. The same name applies to 2...f5 against 2. d4, where it is regarded as dubious.
