A rare sideline of the French Tarrasch in which Black meets 3. Nd2 with 3...f5, attacking e4 a second time at the cost of loosening e6.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Haberditz Variation
The Haberditz Variation answers the Tarrasch with 3...f5. Instead of developing or striking at d4 with ...c5, Black adds a second attacker against e4. The pawn move loosens e6 and the kingside, and the engine gives White a slight edge. The usual reply is 4. exf5. The alternative 4. e5 closes the center, and 4. exd5 is less common. The line is rarely played, and online results are nearly even.
